Never trust a mud puddle, no matter how innocent it looks.

James Wooten and my uncle Terry Smith grew up together in Ider, Ala. Like most country boys, they enjoyed four-wheeling.

One day James, Terry and myself were just hanging and we decided to go see Terry’s dad Butler “Smitty” Smith. Well we cut through the woods and happened upon this huge mud puddle on the edge of a farmer’s field.

After our visit, Terry and I went to pick up my aunt at work, leaving James by himself. Of course he headed for the mud puddle. What he didn’t know was that the farmer had plowed the field the day before it rained.
