Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
With hunting season slowing until turkey season in April, it is nice to know there is something else a man of the outdoors can get into: Fishing.
Oasis State Park in Roosevelt County and Ned Houk Park outside Clovis have winter trout for fishing. Oasis also has channel catfish in the pond.
During the summer, Oasis is stocked a week before the three major holidays — Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
If you don’t mind driving:
• Santa Rosa Lake in Guadalupe County has walleye, crappie, large and smallmouth bass, channel catfish and bluegill.
• Sumner Lake in De Baca County has carp, channel catfish, flathead catish, walleye and white bass.
I’ve spent plenty of hours sitting in a boat or on the bank, watching the clouds roll by, while waiting for a bite back home in Tennessee.
It is nice to know there are some places around New Mexico to do a little fishing.
