Monday morning briefing: Haggis, peanuts and animal control

Good morning. It’s Freedom New Mexico’s Monday morning briefing.

Video of the day

Our latest local video is a day with a Clovis animal control officer.

It’s “At your service.”

Take note

A reminder — Clovis Community College is closed for spring break.

That means if you want tickets for Enter the Haggis, the Canadian Celtic rock band performing at the civic center...you’ll have to buy them this week at the Clovis-Curry Chamber of Commerce.

The band performs March 23.

Web site of the day

A look at mega-peanut processor Sunland Peanuts in Portales.

Their Web site offers all sorts of interesting peanut oddities, including this nugget:

“By the time a typical American student graduates from high school, he or she will have consumed 1,500 peanut butter sandwiches.”

Question of the day

Write the great American novel...become an astronaut...climb Mt. Everest...edit Freedom New Mexico?

What is your secret ambition?

History notes

On this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson addressed a joint session of Congress to urge the passage of legislation guaranteeing voting rights for all.

Using the phrase "we shall overcome," borrowed from African-American leaders struggling for equal rights, Johnson declared that "every American citizen must have an equal right to vote."
