Snowfall hits area again

Rain greeted early morning travelers Wednesday but gave way to snow about 11 a.m. across the region.

National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Shoemake in Albuquerque said the snow was expected to continue overnight. He said by noon today the clouds and storm will most likely break up and move to the east.

Roosevelt County Sheriff Darren Hooker said the Sheriff’s Office has plenty of four-wheel drive vehicles to help deputies to respond whenever they are needed.

“I don’t know if this is going to accumulate on the roads because it is so wet,” Hooker said. “We might just might have slick or sticky roads maybe in the morning.”

Hooker said any time the county has bad weather, officials ask people to be careful, call ahead to where they are going or leave a little early and drive safely.

Most of I-40 was under difficult driving conditions due to the weather Wednesday, according to Clovis /Curry County Emergency Management Director Ken De Los Santos. I-40 eastbound and westbound through Tijeras Canyon to Moriarty was closed due to severe winter conditions.

Expect heavy delays and use caution.
