Base tax office ready to open

Tax season, one of the most dreaded times of the year is once again upon us. However, completing and filing your tax forms can be painless, simple, and free if you come to the Cannon Tax Office, which opens Jan. 26.

All active duty personnel, family members, retirees and federal civilian employees can have their federal and state income tax returns prepared at no cost. Last year nearly 1,000 federal and more than 1,300 state returns were prepared by tax office workers, saving the community almost $218 thousand in fees.

1040EZ walk-in hours will be on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. These walk-in visits are appropriate for individuals who are eligible to file a Form 1040EZ. Generally, they are either single or married couples with no children or property.

Individuals filing Forms 1040 or 1040A should call 784-7304/7701 to schedule an appointment, which will become available Feb. 1. The office will be open until April 15.
