Meetings watch: Curry County Commission selects chairman

The Curry County Commission took the following actions Tuesday:

• Welcomed Commissioner Bobby Sandoval as chairman for 2010. Commissioner Frank Blackburn served as chairman in 2009.

• Passed a resolution supporting development of the Tres Amigas power station in northern Curry County. Officials have said the power hub, expected to manifest after two years of studies and evaluations, will connect the nation’s three major electrical grids.

• Passed a resolution supporting House Bill 15, a bill sponsored by Clovis’ Anna Crook that would create an Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority to, “provide an organized structure to work with state, local and federal agencies to complete a water delivery system from the Ute Reservoir to local governments.”

• Passed a resolution outlining compliance with the New Mexico Open Meetings Act, adding the ability to notify media of public meetings via email.

• Approved a list of nearly 40 committees. They did away with the health care, personnel policy and solid waste issues committees because they have not met in years, according to County Manager Lance Pyle.
