County commissioner to run for city post

Dan Stoddard is hoping he can be the second Clovis resident to be a part of both the city and county commissions.

Stoddard, an assisted living facility owner, intends to file Tuesday for the open seat in the Clovis City’s Commission’s fourth district.

“This community’s been very good to me,” said Stoddard, who won election to the Curry County Commission’s District 2 seat two Novembers ago. “I want to give back and it’s an opportunity to serve.”

The city seat is currently held by Ron Edwards. Edwards, a former Clovis fire chief, said during the commission’s Dec. 17 meeting that he did not plan to run for a second term.

If elected, Stoddard, 50, will join Bobby Sandoval on both commissions.

“I think there will be a lot of advantages being able to work with the county in conjunction with everything moving forward,” Stoddard said.
