New Years eve revelers will have an assortment of places to ring in 2010.
Area businesses are opening their doors with drink specials, live bands and food.
And, a non-alcoholic party features dancing at the Portales Senior Center.
Portales Senior Center Director Dawn Kryder said the senior dance is an annual tradition.
“They’re asking people to bring food for the potluck buffet during intermission,” said Kryder. “The music is going to be provided by Jake and Maurene Howard and Maudene Haragan and friends.”
The dance starts at 8 p.m. and ends shortly after midnight.
Also in Portales, Goober McCool’s Saloon and Spirits has a DJ and giveaways planned for the their New Years party. The Dawg Houze has a live band performing and drink specials.
In Clovis, Applebee’s will be open late unless business is slow. The restaurant is featuring drink specials and half-off on select appetizers.
“If we’re busy we’ll stay open,” said Applebee’s Manager Mike McKay. “We’re open... just come and have a good time.”
Some businesses in Clovis are offering a designated driver program.
Webb’s Watering Hole employee Jessica Bulls said the bar is going to have snacks, party hats and the designated program.
“They will have little goody bags with a little form that says ‘I’m a designated driver,’” Bulls said.
City Limits is also offering the designated driver program.
Portales Deputy Chief of Police Lonnie Berry said while there is no designated driver program in Portales, police have helped in the past.
“We would try to help facilitate that by trying to locate someone for them,” Berry said.
