Emergency volunteers sought

Interim Fire Chief Gary Nuckols is putting out a call for help, encouraging volunteer emergency medical technicians to step up.

Nuckols said the request is in response to an increased volume of calls for assistance in the county, numbers that doubled in just a year.

“We’re just looking at the increased call volume in the county which is creating more of a mutual aid response,” Nuckols said. “There is no concern other than in the increase call volume probably due to our aging population.

“It is in no way putting a strain on us the fact that those calls have doubled in the last couple of years.”

Nucklos said he needs volunteers certified in either basic or intermediate training.

Nuckols has been asking the county and smaller community departments to have their emergency personnel seek either basic EMT training or increase their certification to intermediate.

“Its just encouragement from my stand point,” Nuckols said. “If they are emergency medical technicians basic level then they can go on to intermediate, which we do have a lot EMT basics in our county departments.”
