Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

American Legion hosting community dinner

Freedom New Mexico

The Clovis American Legion Post 25 is throwing a free pre-holiday dinner Saturday and it’s open to anyone.

“This is for everybody in Clovis,” said Philip Duran, Post 25 member.

Duran said Post 25 has prepared this meal for everyone, not just Legion members and their families.

This dinner is part of the many charitable events members of Post 25 hold throughout the year.

Some of those events include scholarships for local students, phone cards for soldiers in Iraq and giving out food baskets during the holidays.

Duran said people can give the information of a family member deployed overseas and the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) will send them a phone card to call home.

“This is a way for us to thank the community for their support,” Duran said. “We look to make this an annual event.”

Now with Thanksgiving only a few weeks past, the members of Post 25 thought residents might like a change so they will be serving ham.

“Everybody has to be just a little tired of turkey,” Duran said with a laugh. “We will have close to 50 hams so I hope people are hungry.”

The meal will include mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and fruit cocktail.

Serving begins at noon at the American Legion Post 25, 2400 West 7th St.

Duran said they will serve until 4 p.m., or until the food runs out.
