Eastern New Mexico University junior cornerback Rodney Mitchell was named to the Daktronics All-America second team, the school’s first player to receive All-America honors since 2004.
Mitchell, from Sarasota, Fla., and a transfer from New Mexico Military Institute, finished the season with seven interceptions, the most by a Greyhounds player in more than a decade. He was second in the Lone Star Conference and first in the LSC South in interceptions this season, and tied for seventh in NCAA Division II in that category.
Mitchell, who returned an interception 22 yards for a score against Texas A&M-Commerce, was a first-team All-Super Region 4 choice and an honorable mention selection in the LSC South. He led the LSC with 23 pass breakups and was among the conference leaders with 72 tackles.
The last ENMU player to earn All-America status in football was linebacker Jeff Howard, who earned a spot on the 2004 AFCA All-America squad.
