Residents cautioned to take steps against holiday burglary

Clovis police are cautioning residents to take extra care during the holidays to avoid becoming a victim of burglary and theft.

Criminals target unlocked vehicles and homes in search of unsecured valuables, according to a press release.

Gifts, firearms, wallets and purses are often stolen, particularly when they are left in vehicles parked at shopping centers, police said.

Police said shoppers can help reduce the risk of theft by keeping valuable items locked out of sight in vehicles and by making frequent trips home to secure purchases.

Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activity and pay attention to their surroundings.

To report suspicious activity: 769-1921 or, in an emergency, 911.
