Christmas program to be 'Simply Joyful'
Have a “Simply Joyful” Christmas with the Roosevelt County Cooperative Extension Christmas program next week.
Extension home economist Connie Moyers is presenting her annual program, which includes demonstrations of recipes and gift ideas, door prizes and food samples.
“It’s called ‘Simply Joyful,’ so everything is fairly simple,” she said.
The recipes incorporate mixes and canned items to make homemade meals easier, and gift ideas can be used quickly and easily.
Jeanne Kircher of Roosevelt County said she has attended Moyers’ Christmas programs for about six years.
“I really enjoy it,” she said. “I really like to go get new ideas.”
Kircher likes the recipes because she enjoys cooking, and she appreciates scrapbooking crafts.
Among other dishes, Moyers said, she plans to demonstrate simple candies and a slow-cooked chicken stuffing casserole that can use pre-cooked meat.
Attendees will be allowed to sample the recipes she shows, Moyers said.
Many of the crafts she plans to demonstrate are from past programs but presented in different ways.
“A lot of things are just some simple little gift ideas,” Moyers said.
For instance, she plans to demonstrate how she uses scrapbooking materials to decorate boxes and make paper Christmas trees. Instructions for a quick and easy throw blanket are also on the program, as are ideas for buying gifts with themes of healthy eating and fitness.
Moyers also plans to discuss how to handle and cook a turkey.
For the admission cost, attendees also get a book with information on the demonstrations and a chance at door prizes such as boxes of candy and stationary items.
Moyers presents the program three times and said a total of between 400 and 450 people normally come.
