The third annual Pintores Art League art auction is 7 p.m. Saturday at Underground Embassy.

President Ed Des Lauriers said the event helps pay for scholarships for art students at Clovis Community College and Eastern New Mexico University and promotion of the arts in Clovis.

Des Lauriers said the auction usually raises enough money to fund two $500 scholarships — one at each school.

Last year, The auction raised $1,100 used for art workshops and projects, Des Lauriers said.

Up for auction is a collection of various mediums donated by members of the league and local artists.

The event starts with a preview and social hour at 6 p.m. which includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music.

Des Lauriers said the event helps showcase the art league, its members and recruits new members.

Vice President Lois Snyder has been a member of the league for 20 years and plans to donate three oil paintings.

Snyder said the club has funded art scholarships since the program began and the auction is a way to help raise money for them.

“This event is a way to let people realize that art is a culture in Clovis,” Snyder said. “Art is a very major part of our lives.”
