Just north of Clovis, a hay bale maze leads past a pumpkin mountain on the way to a sea of pumpkins.
Those are just a few of the activities available at Davis Farms Pumpkin Patch.
Kenneth Davis said he’s been growing pumpkins for 21 years. In years past, he opened up the farm to elementary classes until it became a liability issue. This year, he opened the Pumpkin Patch as a new business.
Davis and his wife Jacqueline have been planning to add fall festivities to their farm for years, Davis said.
After hail damaged a crop of pumpkins, Davis put a crew to work making the mazes and mountain. Davis said 6,000 pumpkins were used to make the displays.
Davis said the couple missed having the children visit the farm and was glad when they were able to have them back.
The sea of pumpkins serves as a maze for toddlers, while the hay bale maze is more complicated. A hay ride takes you into the field to pick a pumpkin. The patch has been open for three weeks and will be open one more day from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
But the fun isn’t over yet, Davis said.
The couple plans to expand next year to include a hay bale castle, a corn maze and lights so activities can go on after dark.
