Officials change promotion policy regarding senior NCO academy

Effective Jan. 1, Air Force officials here will implement policy aimed at improving the skill sets of Air Force senior noncommissioned officers and increasing the return on investment for the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy.
The new policy will require the completion of resident SNCOA prior to promotion to senior master sergeant.
“The goal is to provide enlisted (professional military education) at correctly targeted career points,” Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James Roy said. “By providing enlisted PME earlier and more evenly spaced over an enlisted airman’s career, we ensure enlisted leaders have the tools they need to be successful sooner and at more relevant periods of their career.”
In addition, the policy change will reduce the time span between attending an NCOA and the SNCOA by approximately two years and align the Air Force enlisted PME requirements with those of the sister services.
