Cannon to focus on Air Force Family
There are so many ideals, synonyms, and definitions that come to mind when someone is asked to describe the Air Force Family.
To one individual the Air Force Family is their flight, squadron, group of inner circle colleagues that share the same passion and career field within the Air Force. For another, the Air Force Family encapsulates members in their immediate family that support, encourage, and live the core values set by the Air Force.
Truly, the Air Force Family is a combination of both perspectives which includes all service members: officer and enlisted, DoD civilians, spouses, children, retirees, parents, friends, and community partners who support the Air Force mission.
Recognizing the sacrifice and commitment of the Air Force Family, the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force declared July 1, 2009 — July 1, 2010 as the Year of the Air Force Family with Nov. 1 - 7, 2009 designated as Air Force Family Week.
During this time, opportunities will be afforded to recognize and celebrate the many members of the Air Force Family through educational and awareness events focusing on how Air Force programs and community partners support them and their service.
Throughout the year, programs, services, and policies will be introduced and revamped to expand and enhance the quality of service needed to meet the evolving requirements and expectations of our families.
In conjunction with Air Force Special Operations Command, Cannon will host numerous events to recognize and honor the commitments, sacrifices and contributions of Air Force family members.
Understanding the importance of fostering a sense of community, building resiliency, while increasing personal and professional relationships, the Airman and Family Readiness Center will partner with other base agencies and local community partners to capture the essence of the program through events, seminars, and briefings.
These events will be published and distributed through many venues to include the At Your Service Magazine and base bulletin. Be on the lookout and remember the week of Nov. 1 - 7 is in honor of you and your family. Call the A&FRC at 784-4228 for more details.
