A sampling of calls received by the Portales Police Department from Oct. 5-8:

Oct. 5

• 4:29 a.m., caller at 100 block of Yucca Drive said she was hearing things on her roof. No incident report filed.

• 5:48 p.m., caller reported a young boy was hitchhiking in the area near U.S. Highway 70 and Hamilton and was heading toward Portales.

Oct. 6

• 1:49 p.m., caller at Brazos and Boulder reported a man who was a battery victim and still on the ground. No incident report filed.

• 8:50 p.m., caller at 200 block of East Quince said there was suspicious activity in the area as she saw a vehicle driving around without the headlights on. No incident report filed.

Oct. 7

• 3:05 a.m., caller at 700 block of West 2nd reported a white truck had just hit a gas meter and gas was spewing. No incident report filed.

• 4:11 p.m., caller at 900 block of North Avenue K requested a check on residence for having too many dogs in one location. No incident report filed.

Oct. 8

• 12:37 a.m., caller at 1000 block of South Avenue E reported seeing a man strike a woman twice in the face.

• 1:12 a.m., caller at 200 block of East Quince reported a strange individual knocking on her door but refusing to speak to her. No incident report filed.
