The staff at the community center at Doc Stewart is always looking for ways to connect Cannon Air Force Base with the communities that surround it.
Manager Paul Hopkin said the Cannon Thunder Auto Show is one of the events that brings members from both together.
“This is one of the things we can do to reach out to the community and have fun,” Hopkin said. “People rally around cars.”
The show saw an increase of 10 cars, up from 54 to 64 cars, entered in the third annual show. Hopkin said the categories have been expanded this year to include under construction.
Ronnie Nadile of Clovis entered his 1980 T-top Corvette in the event when he drove the car to see the event and attendees told him to enter.
“I’ve always just worked on and drove my cars,” Nadile said. “This is the first time I’ve entered a car in any show.”
Nadile said he’s worked on cars his whole life. He said he moved to Clovis after Hurricane Katrina took everything from his family. His wife has family in the area and they decided to move.
