Clovis police: Crash victim airlifted

On 09/30/2009 at approximately 8:42 am this morning, the Clovis Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of the 2400 block of Mabry Drive in Clovis in reference to a loaded Semi-Tractor/Trailer truck versus a motor vehicle car crash with injuries. Upon arrival of Officers they found that a female driver had been traveling East on Mabry Drive in the turn lane to turn left into Bender Chevrolet when she turned in front of a loaded semi-tractor and trailer truck that was headed West bound on Mabry Drive. The semi-truck hit the woman's car and spun the car out three to four times and shoved it into the side of the road after impact. The female driver of the car was injured and transported by Clovis Fire Department Ambulance to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. After the female driver was examined it was determined that she had a broken back and required a neurosurgeon. The woman was airflighted by air ambulance to a Lubbock, Texas trauma hospital. The woman’s current condition is unknown as of the time of this release. The department is not releasing the driver's name at this time as she is an active duty military member at Cannon AFB and the department does not know for sure if her family has been contacted at this time

The traffic crash investigator said that it appears that the female driver failed to yield the right of way making a left turn in front of the semi-truck. Due to the extent of injury and major damage to the vehicles, the Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team was activated to investigate the crash. The semi-truck driver was uninjured. Both vehicles sustained severe damage

The investigation is still active by the Clovis Police Department Traffic Crash Team and charges are pending against the driver of the car at this time for failure to yield right of way on a left turn.
