Portales Main Street switching to two-way traffic

Freedom New Mexico

Beginning Wednesday, Main Street between First and Second streets in downtown Portales will be converted to a two-way street from its current one-way traffic configuration.

In partnership with the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the city will configure the new signals for two-way traffic flow. The project also includes rebuilding the signal system, new signage and re-striping.

According to a release from the city, the change is made to improve traffic flow in line with the city’s downtown master plan and recommendations from an engineering study.
