Clovis man sentenced for drug trafficking

A Clovis man has been sentenced to nine years imprisonment for drug trafficking, according to a press release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s office.

Larry Viera, 40, was convicted by a jury on two counts of possession with intent to distribute an illegal narcotic.

Judge Stephen Quinn sentenced him immediately following the trial.

Viera was charged in September 2008, when, while at the jail being booked on unrelated charges, officers found a bundle of cocaine lying under his chair. A strip search revealed four more small packages of methamphetamine, the release said.

Following completion of his sentence, Viera will be required to serve two additional years of probation.
