COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Freshman midfielder Diego Santos took a corner kick from fellow freshman midfielder Kal Herbert and knocked home the winning goal in overtime Sunday, giving Eastern New Mexico University’s men a 2-1 soccer victory over Colorado-Colorado Springs.
The Greyhounds (3-1) matched the best four-game start in the program’s history, set last season. Junior forward Emerson Rodrigues put ENMU in front when he scored with 7:31 left in the opening half, but the Mountain Lions (1-2) tied it on a goal by Dami Oladiran 10 minutes into the second half.
ENMU lost freshman goalkeeper Alistar Caldwell to a red card with about 25 minutes left in the second half. Junior Josh Bussen of Clovis took over and made two saves to keep the Hounds in the game.
The Hounds held a 10-6 edge in shots on goal and a 5-4 margin in free kicks.
ENMU returns to action at noon Saturday in its home opener against Howard Payne.
