BURKBURNETT, Texas — Junior Richard Kogo’s sixth-place finish Thursday helped the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team capture the team title in the season-opening Mustang Stampede, hosted by Midwestern State.
ENMU finished with 53 team points to 60 for runnerup East Central. The Greyhounds had 13 of the 64 runners in the meet, and put four runners in the top 20.
Kogo, a transfer from West Texas College, ran a time of 19 minutes, 39.678 seconds over the six-kilometer course. Teammate Jacob Lozano, a freshman from Hobbs, finished eighth in 19:40.98, while Patrick Lueras was 14th in 19:59.33 and Luis Arguirre came in 18th in 20:12.28.
The individual winner was Julius Korir, who ran unattached and posted a time of 19:15.79.
ENMU’s women came in sixth in the meet, posting a score of 141 points. Friends University of Wichita, Kan., was the women’s team champion with 46 points to 67 for the host Mustangs.
ENMU’s top finisher was sophomore Nicole Reid, who placed eighth in the 4K race with a time of 16:06.27. The winner was Midwestern State’s Sydnee Cole, clocked in 15:23.82.
ENMU’s teams return to action on Sept. 12 when they travel to Canyon, texas for the West Texas A&M Stampede.
