Lake officials anticipate busy Labor Day weekend

If you’re thinking about spending Labor Day weekend at an area lake, better start thinking about camping arrangements.

Conchas State Park and Ute Lake State Park officials said Tuesday that all of their reservation sites have been filled.

Administrator Lorna Ford said Conchas has 76 campsites that can be reserved and all are taken. Ford said 24 other developed campsites, some with water hookups, will be up for grabs to the first arrivals this weekend.

“There are primitive campsites located near the shores and beach areas still available but those too are first come, first served,” Ford said.

At Ute Lake State Park, officials said their 40 reservation sites including the group shelter have already been reserved.

Ute Lake officials said there are 70 developed sites, some with electricity and some with water hookups, as well as primitive sites available to first arrivals.

State parks in surrounding areas are reporting similar situations as the holiday weekend approaches.

All of the reservation sites at Sumner Lake State Park have been filled, said Park Ranger Lewis Hancock, though developed and primitive sites will be available to early arrivals.

“The primitive sites are what most people prefer when they come to this lake,” Lewis said.

Officials said the 25 reservation sites with electrical hookups at Santa Rosa Lake have been filled, but the park has 76 developed sites and eight primitive sites available on a first-come basis.
