Muleshoe police investigate fighter's death

August 31, 2009

Muleshoe police are investigating the suspicious death of a 28-year-old professional mixed martial arts fighter whose body was found on the steps of the Catholic Church Rectory Sunday morning.

Rolando Willie “Shadow” Scott had been shot, according to Chief Brian Frieda.

Police have not yet classified it as a homicide, Frieda said, pending the results of an autopsy, which are expected Tuesday.

“We’re not ruling anything out yet. We’re not sure if it’s self-inflicted or anything else yet,” he said.

“We’re looking into some things to make sure that we’ve covered everything.”

Frieda said police were called to the church on East Hickory Street at 5:40 a.m. (CDT) for a report of a body on the front steps of the church.

Frieda said Scott had just become a pro fighter in recent months and had lived in Muleshoe for years.

Frieda said Scott’s body was sent to medical investigators in Lubbock.
