CCC officials credit programs, online enrollment for student increase
Clovis Community College’s unofficial attendance numbers are up signiricantly, according to Marketing Director Lisa Spencer.
The head count on Thursday, the fourth day of school, was 3,784 — up 429 students from the 3,355 counted on the same day last year, said President John Neibling.
Spencer and Neibling credited the increase to the influx of new military personnel at Cannon Air Force Base, two new programs and on-line enrollment.
The college started a wind energy and a pre-engineering program this year. Neibling said new programs often bring in a boost in attendance.
“Each of those will account for some of (the increase) but it’s in every class,” Neibling said.
Neibling also said student population is younger this year.
Spencer said the location of the college and it’s more affordable credit hours make it an attractive option for students in the area.
CCC allows in district students to take up to seven credit hours for $119, which is the regular price for three credit hours.
