Day trips: Picnic opportunities available at Hillcrest Park Zoo

Place: Hillcrest Park Zoo

Location: 1201 Sycamore St., Clovis. The park is roughly 9 miles or an 18-minute drive from Cannon Air Force Base.

What activities can you enjoy at this location? While touring this 22.5-acre zoo, you can view 150 different mammals, as well as more than 300 birds. There are also picnicking areas with barbecue grills. Also available are volleyball courts and horseshoe areas. One-acre areas are available to rent for special occasions.

What ages is this facility suited for? Any age is suitable.

What are admission prices? Adults (12 and up): $3; ages 3-11: $1.50; children 2 and under: free; seniors (60 and up): $2.50. Yearly memberships can also be purchased. A single membership is $20 a year. Household memberships are $50 a year.

What are the hours of operation? Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with lockdown at 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with lockdown at 6 p.m. Hours may vary due to season and weather changes, and extended summer hours with the zoo opening at 8 a.m. are in effect now.
