Police say Tuesday shooting accidental

Freedom New Mexico

Police said a Clovis woman suffered a gunshot wound Tuesday in what appears to be an accidental shooting.

Capt. Patrick Whitney said the victim's brother was handling a .357 caliber pistol and it discharged, striking his sister in the left leg.

Whitney said the bullet passed through her thigh and struck a chair.

Whitney said the shooting appears to be unintentional, but more information will be available when a police report is filed.

The victim was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment and her wounds don’t appear life threatening, Whitney said.

Whitney said the brother was charged with negligent discharge of a firearm.
