Roosevelt 11-12 All-Stars win

SANTA FE — Josh Jimenez pitched a five-inning complete game and also hit a three-run homer Friday to help Roosevelt County beat Gallup 11-1 in a first-round game of state 11-12 Little League competition.

Jimenez struck out eight batters while going 3-for-4 at the plate with a single, a double and his home run, which put Roosevelt County ahead 5-1 in the second.

Ray Ornales added a two-run double for Roosevelt County in a game called after five innings on the 10-run rule.

Roosevelt County is back in action at 11 a.m. today in the double-elimination event, facing Espanola Valley in a winners bracket game.

Roosevelt County’s representative in 10-11 state competition at Albuquerque didn’t fare as well, losing 13-2 to Albuquerque Zia.

Jose Torres and Payton Chavez hit run-scoring singles in the third inning to get Roosevelt County on the board.

Clovis American’s 9-10 All-Stars dropped a first-round game to Carlsbad 6-4 in anoher game played at Albuquerque. In the 13-14 state tournament at Deming, no first-day results were available on Clovis Zia.
