Budget adoption on commission agenda

Freedom New Mexico

The Clovis city commission meets 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

• A request for adoption of the budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. The budget is approximately $67.5 million, up from last year’s $59.8 million budget.

Don Clifton, the city’s chief financial officer, said the increase is mainly due to grants and $6.5 million in special state funding to replace the Hull Street Overpass.

• Distribution of Lodger’s Tax Funds. Recommendations are made for $19,000 to four organizations.

• An agreement between the city and the New Mexico Department of Transportation on construction management and inspection services for the new Hull Street Overpass. To reduce up-front costs, the city is offering a waiver of tipping fees and garbage/sewer fees until a monetary value of $200,000 is reached.
