Curry County hired former city commissioner Gloria Wicker Tuesday to drive women and children to their medical and other necessary appointments.
The County Commission voted to hire Wicker at a salary of $1,600 a month through October, at which time her contract will be reviewed.
The Mother Child Health van takes women and children to doctors appointments, the pharmacy, Women Infants and Children appointments, grocery stores and more, free of charge.
The elderly and disabled are also eligible, though the van is not wheelchair accessible.
Door-to-door service is provided with a day’s notice.
