Gas leak shuts down Salvation Army building

The Salvation Army of Clovis, 317 E. 2nd Street, is hoping to re-open operations in its family services building today after a week of closure due to a nearby gas leak.

On Thursday, June 25, New Mexico Gas Company notified the volunteer organization of the leak, which closed family services and, temporarily, the Salvation Army’s thrift store.

“I can’t praise them (the gas company) enough, because they’ve put our safety above everything,” said Mjr. Kevin Ray of the Salvation Army.

Ray said power was shut off to the closed building and a large amount of ruined turkeys and hams were removed from the refrigerators
