Police press release: Woman arrested in homicide

On Thursday, June 18, 2009, members of the Clovis Police Department with the assistance of the 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit obtained and served an arrest for Robbin Banister, DOB: 12/16/1964, for an open count of homicide, two open counts of evidence tampering and one open count of conspiracy for the death of Clifford Webber.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at approximately 9:30 am Clovis Police responded to a house in the area of the 300 block of West 14th Street in Clovis in reference to a citizen report of a person who had been stabbed. Upon arrival the Clovis Police discovered the decomposed body of Mr. Clifford Webber.

The 9th Judicial Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was summons and conducted the investigation. The initial investigation started with the interview of several persons of interest who had contact with Mr. Webber. The MCU conducted search warrants for several residences, collecting evidence related to the case.

After conducting all the interviews, it was determined Mr. Webber and Ms. Bannister have been involved in an intimate relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. The information revealed Ms. Bannister was the last person who interacted with and had seen Mr. Webber alive.

Several other persons of interest have been cleared of any wrong doing.

The Office of the Medical Investigators determined Mr. Webber died of a single stab wound to his chest. Chief Sanders says, “We may never know the reason for such a senseless crime” as the motive for the stabbing has yet to be determined.

Chief Sanders commends everyone who assisted in this case. He says, “There were a number of officers from a variety of law enforcement agencies working together to solve this crime. I am proud this case was solved in less then 48 hours. Now we will allow the system to work to ensure Mr. Webber and his family gets the justice they deserve.”

At this point, the case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for the formal filing of the charges.
