Board set up to distribute stimulus money for Curry County food programs

Curry County will receive $6,588 in federal stimulus money through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for emergency food and shelter.

The federal cash will be distributed to local food and shelter programs that meet a May 29 application deadline.

A local board made up of the United Way, Salvation Army, Food Bank, Local Emergency Planning Committee, American Red Cross and St. John Baptist Church will determine what agencies receive cash.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for the money must contact the United Way of Eastern New Mexico at 769-2103 for an application.

Deadline for applications is 11 a.m. Friday.
