Are the trailers near Ute Lake still run by the base and available for use by people from Cannon?
Thank you for the inquiry on the trailers you recall being at Ute Lake.
Unfortunately those trailers are no longer available.
The base outdoor recreation office has several trailers that can be rented and towed up to the lakes. Pop-up tent trailers, A-frame hard-side campers, 13 feet by 16 feet hard-sided trailers with shower and restroom, as well as three 31-foot trailers are available.
The Cannon Outdoor Recreation office would be very happy to assist you with a rental if you are interested. Please feel free to call them at 784-2795 for further assistance.
Can we get access to government e-mail from home or a TDY location?
Thank you for your question. Common Access Card-enabled webmail is required for security, and when Cannon AFB was on the Base Realignment and Closure list the CAC-enabled webserver was not purchased. Since the transition to Air Force Special Operations Command we have been planning for CAC-enabled webmail. The final decision was to wait on the Air Combat Command to AFSOC NIPRNet transition this summer and it will bring with it CAC-enabled webmail, allowing remote access to webmail with a CAC-reader on your personal home PC. According to the 27th Special Operations Communications Squadron, each unit on base will then need to purchase its own CAC-readers and distribute to those who need one.
Also, the 27 SOCS distributed 100+ government laptops to units on base last year to provide some people with Virtual Private Network access. That way, the person using the laptop can remotely access e-mail and share drives from off base as well.
Thanks again from your question. This is one of the most requested services from the 27 SOCS, and they are working to provide this service as soon as possible.
