CANYON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds scored 21 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, which was six more points than they scored in the entire first half.
The result was a 69-47 Lone Star Conference South loss Wednesday at rival West Texas A&M, the Hounds’ eighth straight setback.
Nick Burns led four Buffs (14-7, 4-2 LSC South) in double figures with 16 points.
Equs Darby led the Hounds (4-17, 0-6) with 12 points.
Leading by 14 at halftime, WT used a 10-2 run to open up a 43-22 lead six minutes into the second half.
Eastern responded with a 10-0 run, pulling within 43-32 on a steal by Darby that led to an Aaron King jumper
Clint McFall answered with a 3-pointer to up the WT lead to 46-32 with 10:53 to play and Eastern never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The Buffs and the Greyhounds turn right around and meet again at 8 p.m. Saturday at Greyhound Arena.
