Texas police arrest Missouri man after hour-long chase

A high-speed chase ended Wednesday after a Texas sheriff’s deputy shot out the front tires on a pickup driven by a man who fled from Quay County Sheriff’s deputies.

At 12:52 p.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety official said they had arrested Kyle Martin Bond, 24, of Jefferson City, Mo., after finally stopping his truck on N.M. 402 in Union County, according to Quay County Sheriff Joe Schallert.

Schallert said that Deputy Bill Anderson and Logan Chief of Police Bob Gore tried to serve felony warrants on Bond while he was working a gravel-pit crusher on the Shoenail Ranch east of Logan.

“Deputy Anderson noticed a vehicle leave from the crusher in a hurry and knew that was Bond,” Schallert said.

The chase crossed state lines and lasted more than an hour, police said. Five Hartley County Sheriff’s cars and four Texas DPS cars advised New Mexico police units they were pursuing Bond on U.S. 54 in Hartley County.
