Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A recent Project: Reader Reaction question asked whether local governments should outlaw the sale, use and/or purchase of fireworks in our hot, dry conditions.
Responses:
• “Yes fireworks should be banned except for the professional show like the one at Green Acres Park. It is frightening around my neighborhood every Fourth because it is dry here and the neighbors don’t care where their rockets land or where their other fireworks go.”
— Ardyth Elms
• “Unless we receive a lot of moisture in the next few days, all sales and use of fireworks of any kind should be outlawed, no exceptions. We are a tinder box just waiting for a spark. It is scary.”
— Doug McGregor
• “Given the extremely dry conditions here on the High Plains, I would have no problem with the banning of fireworks.
