Dora and Floyd high schools are holding their graduations this weekend.
Floyd holds its graduation at 1:45 p.m. today at the school. Don ‘Doc’ Elder, professor of history at Eastern New Mexico University, is commencement speaker.
There will be 18 students graduating at Floyd.
Kenya Brook Reed is valedictorian and Hannah Love the salutatorian.
Reed said she has enjoyed high school but is ready for a new challenge.
“The fact that I am graduating sunk in when my classmates and I went on our senior class trip last week,” Reed said. “I knew then that we would never do anything like that as a class again.”
Dora will hold its graduation at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Guy Luscombe Gymnasium. JoBeth Massey, a retired Dora school teacher, is the commencement speaker.
There are 14 graduates in Dora’s class. Amelia Bilbrey is the valedictorian and Megan Collins is the salutatorian.
Bilbrey said she was overcome with emotions as she prepared her valedictorian address.
“Everything has caught up with me,” Bilbrey said. “I have been going to Dora since I was in kindergarten, and writing this speech has been a lot more difficult than I thought.”
