The Library of Congress has a database to honor veterans of conflicts from World War I through present conflicts.
Collections are stored at the Library of Congress and a searchable database of more than 44,000 names are also available online, according to the Veterans History Project Web site.
The project was authorized by Congress in 2000, the site says.
Clovis High School Librarian Marla Layman said she learned about the Veterans History Project when she attended a library
conference recently.
“I thought, well this is a great thing,” she said, explaining local veterans can become part of history by adding their information.
Veterans can request or download an information kit that instructs them on how to submit their information, including oral histories,
historical documents, photos and other items, according to the Web site.
A permanent collection of items and memorabilia is on display in Washington, D.C., Layman said.
