ODESSA, Texas — Hannah Dozier and April Funck scored goals less than 2 1/2 minutes apart late in the second half Sunday to lift Eastern New Mexico University past UT-Permian Basin 2-1 in a women’s soccer matchup.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Zias (4-2) following an 0-2 start. It’s the team’s longest winning streak since it won five in a row late in the 2005 campaign.
Dozier, a freshman forward, earned her fourth goal of the season with 8:16 remaining on a header off an assist from junior midfielder Hillary Gintowt to tie the score. Funck, a sophomore midfielder, added her first goal of the season with just under six minutes left, knocking the ball past Lady Falcons goalkeeper Stephanie Ward from about 25 yards out.
Permian Basin (1-2-2) nursed a 1-0 lead from late in the first half when sophomore defender Rashelle Wohleking found the net off a corner kick.
The Zias outshot Permian Basin 21-9, including 14-6 on goal. ENMU senior keeper Stephanie Sanchez was credited with five saves.
The Zias’ next outing is on Friday when they face Colorado Christian at Lakewood, Colo.
