Reporter's Notebook: Area colleges hold ‘Apprentice’-style competition

NOBODY WAS FIRED. But that didn’t make the competition any less intense.

This week, three eastern New Mexico institutions of higher learning held a competition based on the hit reality TV show “The Apprentice,” which stars Donald Trump.

TWO STUDENTS EACH from Clovis Community College, Eastern New Mexico University and Wayland Baptist University competed in a series of challenges.

The six students had to design and cut a radio commercial; create, cook and market the ultimate burrito; and raise money for tornado victims.

CLOVIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS won the competition, according to John Hansen, CCC career services coordinator and an organizer of the competition.

“It (the competition) was a lot of fun,” said CCC Director of Marketing and community Relations Lisa Spencer, who was one of the judges in the competition.

AS A PRIZE, the CCC students will be project managers today and Saturday at the Career Expo at the Clovis Civic Center and receive new suits.
