Grand slam keys Zias in softball

PHOENIX — Freshman Kristen Cruickshank’s fifth-inning grand slam held up and the Eastern New Mexico University softball team edged San Francisco State 8-7 on Friday night in the Schutt Sports Division II leadoff Classic.

The slam put the Zias (9-10) in front 8-3 and they held off a late rally by the Gators to snap a seven-game losing streak.

In their final game of the event, on Saturday, ENMU lost to Missouri Western 9-5. Freshman Alex Mayo-Otis had a pair of hits to lead the Zias’ attack.
