Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Roosevelt County Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with the town of Elida Tuesday that will facilitate application for a state Community Block Development Grant that would provide the town with water system improvements.
The county approved the agreement on a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Tom Clark voting against the measure.
Clark, who was not present at last month’s meeting when commissioners gave approval to proceed with the CDBG application, said he wasn’t comfortable helping one community and not others.
The agreement obligates the county to perform $19,757 of in-kind matching funds if the state approves the project next legislative session.
The county would also make up any remaining monetary funds if needed to make up the five percent match required by the grant.
In other business commissioners:
• Appointed Commission Chairman Dennis Lopez to serve on the city of Portales Public Works Committee.
• Approved minor changes to the memorandum of agreement with the cities of Clovis and Portales and Curry County affecting the Local Growth Management Committee. The change will require six members as a quorum and five affirmative votes for approval of any action by the LGMC.
