Lelei finishes 12th, Greyhounds third at NMSU meet

LAS CRUCES — Junior Nimrod Lelei finished sixth and sophomore Felix Boit was 12th in New Mexico State’s Kachina Classic cross country meet on Saturday, leading the Greyhounds to a third-place team finish.

Lelei placed sixth with a tiime of 23 minutes, 4.3 seconds — behind five runners from team champion Texas-El Paso, which finished with a perfect score of 15. Boit was 12th in 24:13.9 for the Hounds, whose 94 points were also behind second-place New Mexico (57) and one point ahead of Western New Mexico.

Junior Mariana Chavira led ENMU’s women, finishing eighth in 19:52.2 over five kilometers, while sophomore Stacy Salazar came in 13th with a time of 20:27.2.

The Zias placed fourth with 103 points, behind NMSU (45), UTEP (46) and New Mexico (94).

The Hounds and Zias are not scheduled to return t o action until Oct. 14, when they compete in the University of Arkansas’ Chili Pepper Festival in Little Rock.
