ENMU runners finish eighth, ninth

ALBUQUERQUE — Junior Nimrod Lelei finished 12th in a field of 110 runners on Saturday as the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team finished eighth out of 13 full teams in the Lobo Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico.

Lelei ran a time of 26 minutes, 17 seconds over eight kilometers for the Greyhounds, who finished with 199 team points. Texas-El Paso, led by individual winner Stephen Samoi, won the meet with 29 points to 75 for runnerup Texas A&M.

Junior Mariana Chavira led ENMU’s women, placing 22nd with a time of 24:27 over six kilometers. The Zias were ninth out of 13 full teams with 221 points.

Texas A&M won the women’s team title with 35 points, while New Mexico was second with 54.
