Slavey, Lula (Dendy)

Lula (Dendy) Slavey, 72, of Arizona, and formerly of Portales, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in Arizona.

She was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Portales to Bessie and Carl Dendy.

She was active in Rainbow for Girls while she was in school. She graduated from Portales High School in 1952. Her home had been in Arizona since 1971, where she was employed by the police department as secretary to the SWAT Team for 23 years. She retired in 1998 after suffering a stroke.

She never missed watching the Arizona Diamondback Baseball games on television, according to family members. She was also a Phoenix Suns basketball fan, family members said.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Claude and Ed Dendy.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny Dean and Kevan Dane Fishback; daughter, Trina Dawn Fishback; four grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Dendy of Lubbock and Jack Dendy of Portales; and sisters, Marie Isabel of Hobbs and Imogene Monroe-Johnston of Alamogordo.

Scott P. Reeves will officiate services.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
