ENMU building burglarized

Staff Report

Eastern New Mexico University Campus Police are investigating a burglary at the university’s Administration Building that occurred between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

According to campus police, $35.35 was taken from a petty cash drawer in the cashiers office.

The payroll office in the building was also broken into.

Access to the building was gained through a window on the west door that was broken and the door unlocked from the inside. The same method was used to break into the payroll office. Once inside, the thief or thieves made attempts to open a safe with tools but failed, according to police. A desk drawer was forced open to obtain the petty cash.

Police said because there was little vandalism, they believe the motive was primarily money.

Another incident, about 10 days ago at Greyhound Arena, involved theft of petty cash and more extensive vandalism, according to police. No forcible entry was detected in that case.

There are no suspects and no damage estimates available in either case, according to police.
