Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met April 13 at the Extension Building. Sixteen members and two guests — Valeria Jordan’s daughter and granddaughter — answered roll call by telling their Easter plans. Following a brief business meeting, hostesses Carol Litzelman, Jean Skaggs and Dorris Bourlon served a delicious potluck dinner, with the room decorated with lovely Easter decorations. The group then stuffed more Support Bears for the Clovis Emergency Room.

On April 27 the club had its second meeting at the Extension Building. Sixteen members answered roll call with their favorite flower. During the business meeting, plans were finalized for the group to take a field trip to Muleshoe on May 11. Glenda Belcher, the home economist, presented a program on household tips with club members sharing their own helpful hints. Refreshments were served by hostesses Lois Lewis and Pat Martin.

Llano Estacado Quilt Guild

The Llano Estacado Quilt Guild met April 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church with 15 members present and one guest. Guild President Gail Strickland conducted the business meeting with members of future classes volunteering to head different committees and proposed bylaws being discussed. A show-and-tell by the members followed.

The guest teacher Marilyn Ford of Tucumcari gave the rules for making an art quilt. She had each member draw a word on which they were to base their wall hanging. Ford encouraged group members to use their imagination and a wide variety of items to make their art quilt. She has been an artist most of her life, and attended the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the University of Wisconsin. She turned to quilting about 10 years ago as a new expression of her talents. Traveling with her geologist husband, she has lived all over the United States.
